Here is a beautiful fossil echinoid. This is Clypeaster trevisani from the Miocene of Italy. This echinoid is large - it measures over four and a half inches across and almost two and a half inches high! This somewhat conical echinoid is totally free of matrix and is very ''clean and crisp'' on all sides. The sea urchin is very 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail - the petaloid ambulacra are beautifully defined, and the mouth and anal opening are easily seen. This is an extremely large and displayable echinoid from the Miocene of Europe.
