This is a fabulous eurypterid fossil. It is a pair of complete Eurypterus remipes from Upstate New York. Eurypterus remipes is the State Fossil of New York, and is one of the most unusual extinct arthropods in the fossil record. Eurypterids were thought to be one of the first aquatic animals to explore onto land. Both specimens are nicely articulated with paddles preserved. The smaller specimen is rare in the fact that all of the ''walking arms'' are fully intact. The telson (tailspine) was buried under the larger eurypterid, but was prepared out, and is now exposed, making the small eurypterid one of the most complete eurypterids ever found. Both fossils are nicely showcased on the rectangular matrix plate. This is a top quality pair of fossil eurypterids preserved together forever.
