Here is a very rare vertebrate fossil. This is a complete Canine Tooth from the extinct Dire Wolf, Canis dirus. This fossil was preserved in tar from the famous Pleistocene La Brea Tar Pits of California. This location has been closed to collecting for many of years. The tooth is very well preserved and is fully free of matrix. The enamel of the tooth is very easily seen. The root of the tooth is fully intact, which is extremely unusual. This is a very collectible Dire Wolf canine from the classic Tar Pits collecting site.
