Here is a primitive echinoderm fossil. This is a cystoid (Pleurocystites) from the Ordovician layers of Wastedo, Minnesota. This specimen was found YEARS ago, and was recently acquired from an OLD collection. The plate structure of this extinct echinoderm is quite distinct and easily seen. The detail of the cystoid is excellent - parts of the uniserial arms are intact, which is highly unusual. A LONG portion of the stem is still tightly attached. The cream-colored fossil contrasts nicely with the yellowish matrix. The cystoid is beautifully centered on the rectangular plate of limestone that also contains a small, unidentified crinoid. And, best of all, there is no restoration to either fossil! This is a very rare example of this unusual Ordovician echinoderm from Minnesota.

This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
