This is a very colorful ammonite from Russia. It is a large Cosmoceras proniae from the Jurassic. This type of ammonite has pronounced ribbing and a sharp keel. This specimen is preserved in a very 3-dimensional manner and exhibits fine detail. The ribbing pattern is easily seen, and the inner coils are clearly defined. The nacreous shell of the cephalopod is intact, and the gorgeous iridescent coloration is just spectacular. The color is even more stunning than what the picture shows. The ammonite is wonderfully perched atop a concretionary block of golden pyritic matrix. This is a beautiful example of Cosmoceras from Russia.
