Here is a very unique vertebrate fossil. This is a claw from Ursus uralensis, a Cave Bear. This specimen was found in the Pleistocene Cave Deposits of Russia. Cave Bears were the largest member of the bear family and the chief animal hunted by Neanderthal Man. Cave Bear material is becoming harder to obtain - most of the caves have been discovered and heavily collected. This large claw is very 3-dimensional and quite well preserved. And, best of all, there is no restoration or reconstruction to this fine specimen. This is a great example of a claw from the mighty Ice Age Cave Bear.
