Here is a nice ammonite from England. This is Hildoceras bifrons from the Lower Jurassic. This type of ammonite has slightly curving, low ribs and a broad, somewhat flat keel with a ridge running the length of the keel. This ammonite has been almost totally removed from the surrounding matrix. It is preserved in a 3-dimensional manner and exhibits good detail. The many, inner whorls of the cephalopod are nicely displayed. Under magnification, the ornate suture pattern is easily seen. This is a very fine specimen of Hildoceras bifrons from "across the pond".
