Here is a fine ammonite specimen from an interesting location. This is Prolylleceras sp. from the Cretaceous of Peru. The fossil has been removed from the surrounding matrix so that it can be viewed from all angles. This 3-dimensional cephalopod exhibits extremely strong ribbing and five rows of nodes on the shoulders and the keel. The inner whorls of the ammonite are somewhat displayed on both sides of the specimen. The natural black coloration is extremely unusual. This is a very well preserved example of this unusual ammonite from Peru.
