This is a very colorful Stromatolite specimen from the Precambrian of Wyoming. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This particular Stratifera form genera stromatolite has been dated to 2.58 billion years old! This large slab has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The colorful, marbled mineral replacement is clearly defined and makes for a unique presentation. This is a beautiful example of this extremely old stromatolite from Wyoming.
