This is a rare fossil association. It is a complete Robberfly and feather from the Green River Formation. Usually, ground-dwelling insects, like beetles, are found in the Green River shales. Occasionally, flying insects, like mosquitoes, are unearthed. Rarer still is a Robberfly, a solitary predator insect. This specimen is complete and has extremely fine detail preserved. The segmented body and large legs are easily seen. There is also a distinct bird feather fossilized next to the robberfly - the feather also has great detail preserved. This is a very rare association of two different airborne animals from the Eocene.
