Here is a nice European ammonite. It is a large Dactylioceras commune from the Jurassic of England. This type of ammonite has many whorls with closely-spaced ribs and a very rounded keel. This specimen is quite 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail - the ribbing pattern is easily seen, and many of the tiny inner whorls are still intact. The cephalopod has very good color and contrast and is nicely displayed on the natural concretionary matrix. This is a very large example of this many-whorled ammonite from England.
