This is a very interesting specimen of a fossil bivalve. It is a large Aequipecten sp. valve from the Pliocene of Florida. The ''ears'' of the scallop are wonderfully intact, and the shell is quite complete. This ancient Pecten exhibits wonderful detail - the coarse, radial corrugations are clearly defined, and the fine growth lines are easily seen. And there many examples of barnacles embedded on the surface of the Aequipecten, which is quite unusual. This is a very displayable Pecten specimen from the Pliocene.
