Here is an excellent canine tooth from an ancient bear. This is an Ursus uralensis tooth from the Cave Deposits of Romania. Cave bears are the largest member of the bear family and the chief animal hunted by Neanderthal man. Cave bear material is becoming harder to obtain as the old caves have been heavily collected and are producing very little new material. This huge tooth is extremely well preserved. The shiny enamel is quite beautiful, and the very tip of the tooth exhibits very little wear. The long, dark yellow root of the tooth is also wonderfully intact. This is a very collectible specimen of a large canine tooth from this extinct Ice Age bear.
