This is a gorgeous ammonite fossil from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. The large, thick-bodied cephalopod has been cut in half and both halves have been polished for optimal display. A wide array of colors is seen, with red being the most striking. This red coloration is highly unusual. The individual chambers of the ammonite are wonderfully displayed. Some of the chambers are lined with quartz crystals. The suture pattern of the cephalopod is easily seen in several places. And the exterior of the ammonite has even been polished. This is a very beautiful ammonite that is perfect for a collection or as a gift.
