Here is a fine ammonite specimen from an interesting location. This is Prolylleceras sp. from the Cretaceous of Peru. The fossil has been removed from the surrounding matrix so that it can be viewed from all angles. This 3-dimensional cephalopod exhibits extremely strong ribbing and the tiny inner whorls are easily seen. The detail is nice, and the natural black coloration is extremely unusual. This is a well preserved example of this unusual ammonite from Peru.
