This is a very interesting stromatolite slab from the Lower Cambrian of Nevada. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This strange slab has many small, distinct Girvanella ''algal balls'' preserved. The unique pattern of the tiny stromatolites is beautifully showcased, and the unusual colors of the mineral replacement are quite distinct. This is a large example of this bizarre stromatolite from an area known more for ALIEN life forms (Area 51)!
