Here is an amazing multiple plate of fossil sponges. These are Diagonella sp. from the Cambrian of Utah. Sponges are very uncommon in the fossil record, due to their delicate nature. Cambrian sponges apparently had skeletal nets that were weakly united - they generally required quiet water for preservation. There are SIXTEEN(!) fine examples of this cone-shaped sponge on this plate. All the fossil sponges have beautiful red coloration and excellent contrast with the matrix plate. The fine detail is exceptionally well preserved on these specimens. This is a very collectible multiple plate of these extremely uncommon Cambrian invertebrates.
