Here is a very distinct ammonite from an unusual location. This is an Unidentified Ammonite from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. This "wide-bodied" ammonite has been removed from the surrounding matrix so that both sides can be seen. The cephalopod is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. The inner whorls of the ammonite are easily seen on both sides of the specimen. This colorful cephalopod displays the complex suture pattern in beautiful fashion. This is an excellent example of an ammonite with its suture pattern preserved.
