This is an unusually intact spiny sea urchin. It is a large Archaeocidaris sp. echinoid from Texas. This specimen has great detail - most of the fragile ''saw blade-like'' spines are still intact and attached (rare). The urchin is nicely centered on the large matrix plate. This is a very distinct specimen of a spiny echinoid from the Pennsylvanian Period.
