This is a very detailed cystoid. It is a large example of Caryocrinites ornatus from the Rochester Shale of New York. This type of primitive echinoderm has a somewhat ovate cup comprised of large, highly ornamented plates - the plate structure of this specimen is easily seen. A long stem is still intact, which is quite unusual. The fossil has very good color and contrast and is well showcased on the plate of shale. This is a fine specimen of Caryocrinites from the Silurian of New York.
