This is a wonderful fossil bivalve. It is a huge Chesapecten nefrens from the Miocene of Maryland. This complete scallop has both valves intact and tightly articulated. Both of the ''ears'' of the fossil scallop are present, and the coarse radial ornamentation of the shell is easily seen. Both sides of the fossil are very clean and display beautifully. And there are even a few barnacle scars still preserved on the shell. This is an excellent example of this classic fossil scallop.
