Here is a very unique specimen. This is actual body hair from the Woolly Mammoth, Mammuthus primigenius. This ''wool'' was found in the same area that was featured in the Discovery Channel special, ''Raising the Mammoth''. As you can imagine, only under perfect conditions can actual Woolly Mammoth hair be preserved. This clump of hair probably came from the Mammoth's back or side, as most of the hair is long and coarse (see close-up photo for details). There is a sizeable amount of hair present, and it makes for a very displayable specimen. The hair is wonderfully presented in an acrylic case with two-sided information card. This is an extremely unusual fossil from the Ice Age of Russia - what a conversation piece!
