This is an excellent fossil brittlestar from the Eocene of California. Fossil brittlestars are relatively uncommon in the fossil record, due to the delicate nature of the thin arms. Starfish are occasionally found at this site, but brittlestars are extremely rare. The brittlestar exhibits the large central disk, and all five long, sinuous arms beautifully. The echinoderm shows fine detail - the plate structure is easily seen. The fossil has outstanding natural color and contrast and is wonderfully displayed on the semi-rectangualr plate of matrix. This is a very displayable specimen of a fossil brittlestar from a very unusual location.
