This is a very interesting specimen of a fossil bivalve. It is a large Ostrea nicaisea from the Cretaceous of Peru. The ''ruffles'' of the bivalve are wonderfully intact, and the shell is quite complete. This ancient clam exhibits wonderful detail - the coarse, radial corrugations are clearly defined, and the fine growth lines are easily seen. This is a very distinct Ostrea specimen from the Southern Hemisphere.
