This is a very impressive vertebrate fossil. It is a large Cave Bear (Ursus uralensis) jaw from the Ural Mountains of Russia. Cave Bears were the largest members of the Bear family and the chief animal hunted by Neandertal man. Cave Bear material is becoming more difficult to obtain, as most of the caves have been discovered and collected out. This massive jaw is nicely intact and incredibly well preserved. The large canine and all other teeth are wonderfully showcased - the teeth are firmly embedded in the solid jawbone. The distinct jaw simply displays beautifully. This is a great Ice Age fossil from an extinct Cave Bear.
