This is an extremely interesting specimen. It is a multiple plate of Camptostroma roddyi from the Kinzers Formation of Pennsylvania. Camptostroma is one of the earliest known types of echinoderms. Found in the Lower Cambrian, this Medusa-like animal had a very distinct plate structure. Examples of Camptostroma are extremely rare, and a multiple specimen is even harder to find. These highly unusual fossils have good form and, under magnification, the plate structure is well defined. The natural orange color of the Camptostromas contrasts wonderfully with the grayish matrix. The fossils are nicely showcased on the natural plate of shale. This is an excellent multiple plate of these primitive echinoderms from the early part of the fossil record.
