This is a very rare invertebrate fossil. It is a distinct Microdictyon sinicum from the famous Chengjiang locality in China. This site is known worldwide for soft-body preservation of Lower Cambrian animals. The fauna is very similar to the Burgess Shale, but it is OLDER! Many one-of-a-kind organisms have been described exclusively from this formation.

This animal is in the same order as the famous Hallucigenia from the Burgess Shale. This animal has pillows, or pods, where Hallucigenia would have had its spikes. The definitive structure of this animal is clearly defined. The organism is very well preserved on the natural, unbroken block of shale. This is an extremely collectible organism from one of the most famous invertebrate fossil localities in the world.
