Here is an excellent specimen of a European brachiopod. This is Rhynchonella decorata from the Jurassic of France. The brachiopod is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The coarsely-plicated brachiopod displays the fine growth lines very clearly. Both valves of the brachiopod are intact and tightly articulated. The white-tan fossil contrasts nicely with the almost-white matrix. The brachiopod is aesthetically perched on the sculpted block of limestone. This is a very displayable specimen of an ornate brachiopod.
