Here is a great slab of fossil insects from the Eocene of Utah. There are a multitude of insects on this plate. There is an extremely rare water strider, two craneflies, and many, many mosquitoes present. This is the first water strider that we have seen from this location. The insects have great color and exhibit terrific detail. The dark insects contrast nicely with the lighter-colored matrix. They are well positioned on the large, naturally rectangular plate of shale. This is an extremely fine slab with many fossil insects from the Green River Shale.
