This is an outstanding stromatolite specimen. This is brilliant specimen of Collenia sp. from the Precambrian of Michigan. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This stromatolite is estimated to be 2.3 to 2.5 billion years old! This striking slice of stromatolite has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The gorgeous coloration of the mineral replacement and the unique pattern make for a stunning exhibit. This is a beautiful example of a ''Rhodochrosite'' stromatolite from Michigan.
