This is a very rare fossil. It is an undescribed dragonfly from the Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. The other half of this specimen is being used to describe this type of dragonfly. The insect itself has excellent detail. Both wings are intact and the venation is easily seen. The head and body of the dragonfly are both well preserved, and both mandibles are even complete (rare). There are no cracks or breaks on the 3.7" X 8.5" rectangular matrix plate. This is not the largest fossil dragonfly from Solnhofen we have ever had, but it is probably the most detailed. It is a fabulous example of one of the most sought-after fossil insects in the world.
