This is a very collectible fossil. It is a complete Chesapecten nefrens from the famous Calvert Area of Maryland. This type of bivalve is a scallop, as seen by the shape of the shell. This specimen has both halves of the shell intact and fossilized together. The top side of the scallop has a large barnacle preserved on it - it is extremely rare to have this fragile barnacle still intact. The back side shell also displays well. This is an unusual fossil symbiosis from the Chesapeake Bay region.
