This is a very striking pair of ammonites. The ammonites on the block are fine examples of the rare ammonite, Cosmoceras spinatus. This type of ammonite has pronounced ribbing, a sharp keel, and knobby spines covering the outer shell. Both ammonites exhibit wonderful detail - the inner whorls of the ammonites are easily seen. The extremely iridescent coloration of the fossils is just spectacular (even better than the picture shows!) The fossils are beautifully presented on the large block of concretionary matrix. This is a stunning double specimen of ornate, iridescent ammonites from Russia.
