This is a fine fossil bivalve. It is a complete Chesapecten nefrens from the Miocene of Maryland. This large scallop has both valves intact and tightly articulated. Both of the ''ears'' of the fossil scallop are present, and the coarse radial ornamentation of the shell is easily seen. The surface of the fossil has barnacle remains preserved, which is somewhat unusual. This is a wonderful example of this classic fossil scallop.
