This is a very unusual eurypterid fossil. It is a Balteurypterus tetragonopthalmus from the Ukraine. Specimens of this type surface occasionally, but they are usually very incomplete. This specimen is essentially complete, missing the tip of the long telson (tailspine). The eurypterid is preserved ventrally, has great detail, and contrasts very well with the light-colored matrix. This is a rare, articulated Eurypterid from part of the old Soviet Union.
