Here is an unusual plate of Middle Cambrian fossils. These are a sponge and an Agnostid trilobite from the Cambrian of Utah. Sponges are very uncommon in the fossil record, due to their delicate nature. Cambrian sponges apparently had skeletal nets that were weakly united - they generally required quiet water for preservation. There is a large, urn-shaped sponge on this plate. The fossil sponge has beautiful color and excellent contrast. The trilobite is complete and well displayed. The fossils are naturally spaced on the semi-squared plate of shale. This is a very collectible association plate of these uncommon Cambrian invertebrates.
