This is a beautiful fossil sea urchin. It is a Micraster gibbus from the Cretaceous of Germany. This heart-shaped echinoid has been removed from the matrix so that it can be viewed from all angles. All sides of the echinoid are very clean and beautifully displayed. The sea urchin is extremely inflated and exhibits no crushing whatsoever. The fine detail of the fossil is quite evident - the ambulacra are easily seen, and the pustulous surface of the echinoderm is clearly defined. This is a wonderful example of this distinct sea urchin from Germany.
