Here is an unusual blastoid. This is Pentremites sp. from the Mississippian of Indiana. This 3-dimensional blastoid is highly unusual in the fact that the brachioles and stem are preserved. Usually, the thin, hair-like brachioles (feeding appendages) are not present, but on this specimen, they are intact (hard to see in photo). Also, a blastoid with the stem intact is also highly uncommon. The echinoderm has good color and contrast and is well presented on the natural plate. This is a fine specimen of Pentremites with the brachioles and stem preserved.
