Here is a beautiful ammonite specimen from an interesting location. This is Dieneroceras knechti from the Triassic of Nevada. The fossil has been removed from the surrounding matrix so that it can be viewed from all angles. This 3-dimensional cephalopod exhibits no distinct ribbing and is quite smooth. The detail of the ammonite is well displayed and easily seen. The natural coloration of the fossil is extremely unusual. This is a wonderful example of this unusual ammonite from Nevada.
