Here is a fine example of an unusual fossil. This is Dictyonema retiforme, a graptolite, from the Silurian of New York. Dictyonema was a fan-like colony that attached to the bottom of the sea with a fibrous holdfast. This wonderful specimen is a very nice example of the fan-like colony. The fossil has excellent color and contrast and has very fine detail preserved. This is a very distinct specimen of this uncommon, enigmatic fossil.
