Here is an extremely complete cystoid from the Silurian of New York. This is Caryocrinites ornatus from the Rochester Shale. This cystoid displays wonderful detail. The ball-shaped cup is very robust and composed of large, highly ornamented plates. MANY of the extremely long, unbranching arms of the cystoid are present and exhibit the fine pinnules in beautiful fashion. A portion of articulated stem is still tightly attached to the cup. The fossil has very nice color and contrast and is beautifully showcased on the large, rectangular plate of shale. This is a very textbook specimen of a multi-armed cystoid.
