Here is an uncommon type of Middle Cambrian cystoid. This is a Gogia palmeri from Bear Creek, Idaho. This primitive echinoderm used to be known as an eocrinoid, but has now been re-classified as a cystoid. The preservation of this primitive echinoderm is wonderful. The large-plated, ornate calyx is extremely detailed. Many of the long, segmented arms are even preserved, but are straight and not spiraled like most Gogia. The cystoid has nice natural color and contrast and is nicely showcased on a large plate of shale. This is a very nice specimen of this primitive echinoderm from the Spence Shale.
