Here is a nice pair of primitive echinoderms. This is a set of unidentified carpoids from the Ordovician layers of Wisconsin. This specimen was found YEARS ago, and was recently acquired from an OLD collection. The overall shape of these extinct echinoderms is quite distinct and easily seen. The detail is excellent - the plate structure is still intact, which is highly unusual. The long stems are even tightly attached. The cream-colored fossil contrasts nicely with the yellowish matrix. The carpoids are beautifully showcased on the natural block of limestone. And, best of all, there is no restoration to either fossil! This is a very rare example of these unusual Ordovician echinoderms from Wisconsin.
