Here is a huge specimen of a very rare cystoid. This is Callocystites jewetti from the Silurian of New York. This cystoid is extremely large for the type. It is very inflated and exhibits incredible detail. The highly ornamented plates are beautifully articulated. The lengthy stem is still tightly attached to the cystoid, which is quite unusual. The fossil has excellent color and contrast and is beautifully displayed on the rectangular plate of shale. This is onr of the largest single examples of this scarce cystoid we have ever seen. It is a spectacular and highly displayable example of this primitive echinoderm.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
