Here is an unusual multiple plate of fossil sponges. These are Diagonella sp. from the Cambrian of Utah. Sponges are very uncommon in the fossil record, due to their delicate nature. Cambrian sponges apparently had skeletal nets that were weakly united - they generally required quiet water for preservation. There are three distinct examples of this urn-shaped sponge on this plate. The fossil sponges have very good color and excellent contrast. They are naturally spaced on the semi-squared plate of shale. And this is a split pair - the counterpart (not pictured) is included at no charge. This is a very collectible multiple plate of these uncommon Cambrian invertebrates.
