Here is an extremely nice cystoid from the Silurian of Indiana. This is Holocystites scutellatus from the Osgood Formation. The cystoid is inflated and exhibits fine detail. The extremely pustulose plates are well defined, and the short, complete stem is still attached to the theca - usually these are broken off or not preserved. The cream-colored cystoid contrasts nicely with the grey matrix and is well presented on the natural plate of limestone. This is a very displayable cystoid from Indiana.
