This is a beautiful display fossil. It is a large Cosmoceras proniae from the Jurassic of Russia. This type of ammonite has many ribs and a somewhat sharp keel. This ammonite is very 3-dimensional and shows excellent detail. The tiny inner whorls of the ammonite are quite evident, and the ribbing pattern is easily seen. The ammonite has wonderful iridescence and flashes a myriad of colors on one side. The other side of the ammonite displays the pyritized suture pattern and hollow chambers beautifully. The cephalopod has been totally removed from the surrounding matrix for a striking display from all angles. This is a great fossil to exhibit or to give as a gift.
