Here is a beautiful fossil crab from the Cretaceous. This is Orithopsis sp. from Hajoula, Lebanon. Due to political unrest, fossils from this locality are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This rare fossil crab is quite large and exhibits great detail. The carapace, both claws, and the legs are clearly defined. The brown color of the fossil contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The crab is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of sublithographic limestone. This is a very aesthetic specimen of this extremely unusual fossil crab from the Cretaceous of Lebanon.
