This is a fabulous example of a newly discovered stromatolite from the Precambrian of Australia. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This striking slab has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The unique pattern of the columnar stromatolite is beautifully showcased, and the different shades of the mineral replacement are quite noticeable. This is a very distinct example of this new stromatolite find from Down Under.
