Here is a stunning plate of ammonites from the Jurassic of Russia. There are three excellent cephalopods on the plate. The ammonites are wonderful examples of Quenstedtoceras. This type of ammonite has very distinct ribs with a rounded keel. The ammonites are extremely 3-dimensional and exhibit great detail. The inner whorls of the cephalopods are wonderfully displayed. Perhaps the most striking feature of this piece is the color of the fossils. All of the ammonites retain the mother-of-pearl shell and are gorgeously iridescent. They almost appear as if they were replaced by silver opal - the colors are that intense. The fossils are wonderfully perched on the large block of concretionary matrix. This is a very displayable plate of colorful ammonites from the Jurassic of Russia.
